HELLO FRIENDS AND FUTURE FRIENDS!
Welcome to Aita Baita, which means "Father's House" in Basque!

Welcome to Aita Baita, which means "Father's House" in Basque!
The first thing one notices in the Basque Country are the typical white houses with either Basque-red or Basque-green shutters on the windows. Occasionally you can find blue shutters, which are traditionally reserved for fishermen's homes.
The Basque cross is an ancient symbol which is found depicted in many places. Our home, Aita Baita, has had its name since 1639 when the original section was built as a farmhouse. It is located in the oldest part of Ciboure, and is listed in a protected area. On one side of Ciboure is the port and the beach, and on the other, the Pyrenees mountains.
We have successfully maintained the charm of the classic house, as I experienced it growing up, while recently adding many amenities of the 21st century, including air conditioning on the top floor, WiFi, an elevator, a parking area, and a bathroom for every bedroom! I am the fifth in line to inherit the house since it was bought in 1905.
My French mother's family has its roots in the Basque Country, and my American father grew to love the house with all his heart just as my German husband has. Growing up in an international and nomadic family, and then raising one myself, I have always cherished my home base here in Ciboure and look forward to sharing my home my home with as many of you as possible!
